Chinese FDI in the US declined to $4.8 billion in 2018: Last year Chinese companies completed acquisitions and greenfield investments in the United States worth only $4.8 billion, down 84% from $29 billion in 2017 and 90% from $46 billion in 2016. This represents the lowest level seen in seven years.
After dropping from a record high of $46 billion in 2016 to $29 billion in 2017, completed Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) in the US took another plunge in 2018, dropping to just $4.8 billion. This represents the lowest level since 2011 (Figure 1). The number of transactions also declined (albeit less sharply), from 162 in 2016 and 166 in 2017 to 120 in 2018.
In addition to investing less, Chinese firm also divested assets at an unprecedented pace in 2018. This trend was driven by some of the most prominent investors that drove the 2015-2016 outbound investment boom as they have been forced to unwind their global holdings to clean up their books and reduce debt levels. We count a total of $13 billion in completed divestitures in 2018, and another $20 billion are still pending (Figure 2). Counting divestitures, Chinese net FDI inflows to the US were negative to the tune of $8 billion last year.
The implementation of the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA) will further complicate the picture. FIRRMA reinforces a stricter application of national security screenings of Chinese FDI as well as non-FDI transactions (such as venture capital) in critical emerging technologies and critical infrastructure. Data from the last quarter of 2018 already show signs of preliminary impacts, for example a downturn in VC investments by Chinese corporate venture investors (whereas passive financially-motivated investments by professional VC firms are holding up better).
The 2018 Annual Conference offered education leaders and policymakers the connections, tools, learning opportunities, and strategies they need to understand and implement effective professional learning in their classrooms, schools, and districts.
The theme for the 2018 Learning Forward Annual Conference was All learners, many perspectives, one community. Many sessions focused on SEL and equity as education leaders and policymakers shared their expertise on creating and sustaining excellent teaching and learning every day. The conference program offered opportunities to make connections, share and learn about tools, and strategies to understand and implement effective professional learning in classrooms, schools, and districts. The Standards for Professional Learning came to life through sessions that highlight successes and challenges.
Although many industries are involved across the cases, six stand out for the additional attention they get. Retail, food service, travel/hospitality, banking/financial, entertainment and leisure, and self-service, have the majority of cases, reflecting a general pattern over 2017 and 2018 toward these types of organizations.
This substantive excellence stemmed from innovation and creativity in developing committees and topics. One of the new and most interesting committees run at SCMUN 2018 was the International Court of Justice (ICJ) focusing on the Iran-Contra Affair, which was executed using traditional THIMUN rules of procedure. The committee, consisting of both judges and advocates, required delegates to prepare stipulations and memorials (rather than position papers), which were then used to drive the debate during the proceedings. It was clear that this committee had one the highest levels of debate at the entire conference. To make the experience even more memorable for delegates, SCMUN staffers acted as witnesses, having prepared both costumes and interactive dialogues that would drive the delegates to engage even further with the case at hand. The ICJ was truly one of the most memorable and interesting committees at SCMUN 2018!
its really frustrating. I've invested in top end hardware. Sure its great for working with large data sets, but i watch in despair as all the processes and gpu activity drops to nothing while I wait hours for recap to register and index.
There is at least one photogrammetry product on the market which costs less and will process up to 2500 photos offline. It will often process a whole job in less time than the upload would have taken for recap.
My Remake license ends in 10 days so I decided to check out the ReCap forums to see if any changes have been made to local processing. Per Anil's comments here that local processing is back on top of the Road map \" -forum/recap-without-cloud-ie-using-your-own-hardware-to-process... \" I definitely want to vote this up. It was a silly mistake to take it away in the first part.
The fleet world gathered June 11-13 in sunny Toronto, Ontario for GEOTAB CONNECT 2018. Here is a recap of the keynote presentations and sessions on Day 1 and 2. This blog post was put together with the help of Melanie Serr, Maria Sotra, Pilar Cervigon, and Lauren Jinkerson.
It is appropriate that the weather of last month of 2018 was rather similar to many earlier months in the year. Statewide, precipitation was above average for the 10th month of 2018 and the temperature was above average for the 8th month. This resulted in the year being the wettest on record and the 11th warmest since statewide observations began being calculated in 1895. More on this later in the report.
This even distribution of precipitation is testimony to the scattered nature of the deluges that occurred at times during the summer, and more so a function of numerous statewide soakings. An excellent example of the latter is seen in most of the November events and several in December. Another interesting aspect to the annual soaking was the absence of a major tropical system contributing a huge amount of widespread rainfall, such as was the case with Irene in late August 2011. 2018 will be remembered for storm after storm after storm!
The map below shows spatially average temperature departures for the year 2018. Despite several dramatic temperature swings throughout the seasons, the year as whole finished right around the long term mean statewide. A few regions in the northwest were a degree below, and a few regions in the south/southeast were a degree above the long term mean.
The map below shows precipitation as a percent of normal for the year 2018 in inches. It was a rather wet year statewide, the highest percentages above average were reported in numerous regions across the extreme northern and southern portions of Illinois, where 125 to 150 percent of normal precipitation was measured.
PDH Credits for Your Attendance Verified by the Mobile AppAll attendees who completed session evaluations within the mobile app before August 28, 2018 should have received a certificate from ITE. The email includes a certificate that indicates the sessions attended and the PDH credits earned.

When the dust settled, it seemed like more than 32 picks had come off the board. But that's all that happened on Thursday night, along with eight trades and plenty of unforgettable moments. From Heisman winner to Heisman winner, here's what happened in Round 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees put together one of the finest seasons of his 18-year career, leading the Saints to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. In the process he became the NFL's all-time passing king and broke his own record for completion percentage. Brees finished the 2018 season, his 13th with the Saints, with an NFL-record completion percentage (74.4 percent), and a career-high quarterback rating (115.7). He completed 364 of 489 passes for 3,992 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just five interceptions in 15 games (he was rested in the season finale vs. the Carolina Panthers). For the third year in a row, Brees was selected to the Pro Bowl, making this his 11th season as a selection and was second team All-Pro. Brees was the NFC Offensive Player of the Month in December and was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice. He was the runner-up in voting for the MVP award and was the winner of the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Our inaugural Research Day on April 10, 2018, brought a full and enthusiastic crowd to Penn's Smilow Center for Translational Research, where they were greeted by opening remarks from DBEI Chair and CCEB Director Harold I. Feldman, MD, MSCE. The day reflected the DBEI's work across the full spectrum of population-health science: devising and testing preventive strategies, managing chronic illnesses, developing personalized treatments for acute illnesses; and it showed the CCEB in action, linking clinical epidemiology and biostatistics within the Perelman School of Medicine, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and the Penn community.
Analysis (Foster): Though the Braves didn't land the kind of frontline starter they wanted, Gausman offers them rotational depth at a relatively minimal cost. Moving away from the AL East could be just the boon Gausman needs to succeed. Getting Gausman alone would've made this deal a winner for the Braves, but they also managed to snag O'Day, a veteran reliever who could potentially help boost Atlanta's bullpen in 2019. But he's
